It is common to see everyone using VLC Media Player these days. It is free and packed with features. Whether it be playing videos, saving streamed videos, video format conversion VLC is there. With such features, it is always a burden on the CPU when you try to use this player. So, in VLC you have a feature to enable hardware acceleration which loads off CPU to some extent and hands over some processing to Graphical processor. Using GPU might little hinder the performance but overall this boosts the performance of CPU. Hardware acceleration can be enabled in VLC by going to TOOLS->PREFERENCES->INPUT/CODEC.
